Annunciate le nomination per della 78ª edizione dei Golden Globe Awards, che verranno assegnati domenica 28 febbraio 2021, praticamente nello stesso periodo dell’anno in cui tradizionalmente venivano assegnati gli Oscar e con un ritardo consistente rispetto al solito causa pandemia di Covid-19 (gli Academy Awards, dal canto loro, sono fissati per il prossimo 25 aprile). A presentare i Golden Globes – assegnati come ogni anno dalla Hollywood Foreign Press, l’associazione della stampa estera di Hollywood – saranno Tina Fey e Amy Poehler, che condurranno la cerimonia rispettivamente da New York e Los Angeles. Per la prima volta nella storia del premio, dunque, le due conduttrici saranno collegate da due città diverse e da entrambe le coste americane (Tina Fey si troverà nella Rainboy Room del Rockefeller Center di New York City, mentre Amy Poehler interverrà dal Beverly Hilton Hotel di Beverly Hills, luogo in cui i premi vengono tradizionalmente consegnati).
Le nomination sono state annunciate oggi da Sarah Jessica Parker e Taraji P. Henson durante il Today Show della NBC. Tra i film candidati spiccano, e non poteva essere altrimenti dato l’anno che ci siamo lasciati alle spalle, molto titoli usciti direttamente su piattaforma come Mank e Il processo ai Chicago 7 (entrambi di Netflix), ma anche il Leone d’oro Nomadland e Pieces of a Woman, entrambi visti alla scorsa edizione della Mostra del cinema di Venezia (per il secondo Vanessa Kirby aveva ottenuto la Coppa Volpi come miglior attrice).
Nelle candidature c’è anche un po’ di Italia, grazie in primis alla nomination come miglior film straniero de La vita davanti a sé di Edoardo Ponti, anch’esso uscito su Netflix e con protagonista Sophia Loren, alla quale sfugge però la candidatura come miglior attrice in una categoria in cui vengono nominate invece Viola Davis, Frances McDormand, Carey Mulligan, Andra Day e la già citata Kirby. Tra i film stranieri pure il francese Deux, diretto dall’italiano Filippo Meneghetti, mentre nelle categoria di miglior canzone tra i nominati c’è anche Laura Pausini tra i nominati per il brano Io sì (Seen) proprio da La vita davanti a sé. Solo in due occasioni passate un film italiano aveva ottenuto due candidature ai Golden Globes e prima di oggi c’erano riusciti Una giornata particolare di Ettore Scola e Malèna di Giuseppe Tornatore.
Netflix ottiene il 35% delle nomination complessive, mentre tre su cinque le candidate donne nella cinquina dei migliori registi, un record: si tratta di Chloé Zhao per Nomadland, sicuramente la favorita, Regina King per One Night in Miami (uscito su Amazon Prime Video) ed Emerald Fennell per Promising Young Woman. Il film della King è quello con il maggior numero di nomination insieme a Il processo ai Chicago 7, mentre tra le serie tv spiccano La regina degli scacchi e The Crown, entrambe di Netflix, e The Undoing – Le verità non dette targata HBO, vista da noi su Sky.
